The Jewish Chronicle - - COMMENT -

Ben Rich says that throughout Nick Clegg’s leadership of the LibDems “he ensured that LibDem policy towards Israel remained balanced and proportionate” ( JC, Oct 30). Such a rewriting of history cannot go unchallenged. Nick Clegg made it a personal mission to publicly whip Israel for defending itself from terrorism.

He called for an arms embargo on Israel, called its response to Hamas rocket attacks from Gaza “deliberately disproportionate” and accused Israel of imposing a “form of collective punishment” on the citizens of Gaza.

He remained silent about Iranian backing for terrorist groups and Tehran’s calls to wipe Israel off the map. And his lack of action over former MP David Ward’s offensive comments about Jews was shameful.

I dread to think what policy towards Israel Mr Rich would consider not “balanced and proportionate”. Jonathan Hoffman London, EN5
