NO FURTHER action will be taken against Labour MP Sir Gerald Kaufman followinghisclaimsthat“Jewishmoney” influences Tory policy to be pro-Israel.

The JC understands Labour officials consider the matter closed after last week’s meeting between the party’s chief whip, Rosie Winterton, and Sir Gerald to discuss his remarks.

Sir Gerald had also alleged that Israel “fabricated” terror attacks in order to execute Palestinians.

Labour Party general secretary Iain McNicol wrote to eight party MPs who had called for formal disciplinary proceedings, assuring them there would be “no further repetition” of the remarks.

One Westminster source said party leader Jeremy Corbyn’s rebuke last week, in which he called the remarks “unacceptable and deeply regrettable”, had come too late, but was the best the Jewish community could expect.

Boardof DeputiespresidentJonathan Arkush and chief executive Gillian Merron met Ms Winterton at her request to discuss the issue.

Jewish leaders asked Labour MP Andy Slaughter for clarification of remarks he made speaking after Sir Gerald at the Palestine Return Centre meeting.
