Doc­tor asks star Bieber: sing with my NHS choir

A DOC­TOR whose on­line cam­paign helpedanNHS­choir­beat­JustinBieberto the Christ­mas num­ber one slot has said the choir is now hop­ing the pop star will join them for a con­cert.

Har­riet Nerva, a ju­nior doc­tor at Hinch­ing­brooke Hos­pi­tal in Cam­bridge, launched a Face­book cam­paign in Oc­to­ber to land the Lewisham and Green­wich NHS Trust Choir­thetopspotintheUK’smu­sic charts for their sin­gle Bridge Over You.

The for­mer JFS pupil said the song re­minded her “how proud I am to work for the NHS”, and in­spired her to high­light some of the is­sues it is fac­ing. The cam­paign at­tracted hun­dreds of thou­sands of supporters, with 127,000 copies of the record sold. Bieber him­self urged the pub­lic to make the song num­ber one over his own release. “We were over the moon,” Dr Nerva said.“It­wasover­whelm­ingth­atJustin Bieber backed us. This was a grass­roots cam­paign run by a small team on top of our day jobs and we never ex­pected we would be com­pet­ing with­some­one­like­him. “Ournextmoveis­toor­gan­isea con­cert with the choir and get Justi­na­long­top­er­form.”Pro­ceeds from the sin­gle’s sales will go to char­i­ties in­clud­ing Car­ers UK and Mind.
