Sela aim­ing for top 50

TEN­NIS DUDI Sela is tar­get­ing a re­turn to the top 50 in the world rank­ings ahead of the Aus­tralian Open, which be­gins on Mon­day.

T h e I s r a e l i c o mpl e t e d h i s p r e p a r a t i o n s f o r t h e f i r s t grand slam of the year with a dis­ap­point­ing first round de­feat against San­ti­ago Giraldo at the Can­berra Chal­lenger.

But he is con­fi­dent a solid week of train­ing will en­sure that he can con­tinue to climb the ATP rank­ings again.

Hav­ing risen to 87 in the rank­ings, he said: “I also be­gan last year around 100 and my goal is to re­turn to the top 50.

“I didn’t play in many events last year due to ill­ness and the birth of my daugh­ter, so I hope to play in more tour­na­ments and achieve my goals.”

Sela, who hopes to com­pete at the Rio Olympics later this year, re­cently reached the fi­nal of the Happy Val­ley Chal­lenger in Ade­laide.
