WEDDING SINGER FINDS HER VOICE
HERE’S one act to watch on the new series of BBC1’s song contest, TheVoice. Lydia Lucy ( below), while not Jewish, is a singer with top London simchah band Totem. She got through her blind audition on Saturday, picked by judge will.i.am, and will return to sing next month. The band, formed five years ago, has supplied a steady stream of contestants to the show. Jamie Johnson, who still occasionally sings with it, was Voice runner-up in 2014, while front man, chazan’s son Moni Tivony, and another performer Trevor Francis have also appeared.
Lydia will hope to emulate Alexandra Burke, a former X Factor winner, who also sang on
the simchah scene.
