Oscar-tipped film sparks hate

The Jewish Chronicle - - WORLD NEWS -

THE SUCCESS of Oscar-nominated Holocaust film Son of Saul has prompted an antisemitic backlash from within its country of origin — Hungary.

According to reports in the Hungarian media, references to the film as a “Holocaust joke”, and “Jewish prop- aganda” have proliferated on social media.

In 2013, when news that the film had received a grant from the Hungarian government, far-right Jobbik MP Elod Novak said that his party would “put an end to the Holocaust industry in filmmaking”.
