The let­ter from the di­rec­tor of B’tse­lem ( JC, Jan 22) is disin­gen­u­ous in its at­tempt to sug­gest that its ac­tions as well as the use of for­eign govern­ment funds are to “ad­vance hu­man rights in the oc­cu­pied Pales­tinian ter­ri­to­ries”.

If that were true, such an or­gan­i­sa­tion founded by “prom­i­nent Is­raelis” would prop­erly be mak­ing rep­re­sen­ta­tion to Is­rael’s govern­ment with sub­stan­tive fact, rather than seek­ing glory amid un­cor­rob­o­rated sto­ries in world me­dia to de­fame Is­rael.

So far as hu­man rights are con­cerned, B’tse­lem should be look­ing at the hu­man rights records ap­pli­ca­ble to coun­tries around the world in­ves­ti­gated by Free­dom House, a non-profit or­gan­i­sa­tion. On political rights, Pales­tine is at the bot­tom and
