Fillon apology over hate tweet
FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL candidate Francois Fillon has publicly apologised after a worker at his Republican party office tweeted an antisemitic cartoon of centre-left rival Emmanuel Macron.
The picture showed Mr Macron with a top hat and hooked nose, and cutting a cigar with a red sickle, a Communist symbol. Mr Macron previously worked as an investment banker at Rothschild Banking Group.
Mr Fillon said: “I cannot tolerate my party publishing caricatures that use the codes of antisemitic propaganda.”
