HASMONEAN HIGH pupil Zev Bloom raised £5,000 for Israeli children’s charity Shalva by completing the halfmarathon organised alongside the Jerusalem Marathon.

The 16-year-old said the experience had been “amazing and the fact I was running for Shalva made it even more special.

“I spent a long time raising the money and after seeing the new Shalva building while I was in Israel, I realised that my contribution would literally help thousands of children and their families.”

A keen athlete, Zev recorded the fastest time in his age group for the 13-mile distance.

Among Shalva runners in the full marathon was Ori Sasson, a judo bronze medallist for Israel at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

“I couldn’t imagine being part of a more exciting group in this momentous event in our capital city,” he said.
