Sil­ver lin­ing for UCS boys

TA­BLE TEN­NIS UCS un­der-13’s were run­ners-up at the English Schools Na­tional ta­ble ten­nis fi­nals.

Hav­ing pro­gressed through the Lon­don and South­ern re­gional fi­nals, the Hamp­stead school were beaten 5-3 in their open­ing match by even­tual win­ners, St Mary’s of Hull.

UCS had chances to make a win­ning start, but Toby Craw­cour, who led 6-2 in the de­cider against the ninthranked player in Eng­land, and Josh Im­ber, were un­able to se­cure vic­tory from strong po­si­tions.

A 4-4 draw against Long­field Academy from Darlington fol­lowed, with both teams win­ning 14 games apiece. Ben Bar­barash, Joe Abra­hams and Im­ber won their re­spec­tive matches, while Craw­cour, 11, claimed two games against his op­po­nent, who is ranked in the top 15 of the un­der-15s.

UCS fin­ished on a high, beat­ing Ernest Be­van 5-3 to se­cure sec­ond place.
