Silver lining for UCS boys
TABLE TENNIS UCS under-13’s were runners-up at the English Schools National table tennis finals.
Having progressed through the London and Southern regional finals, the Hampstead school were beaten 5-3 in their opening match by eventual winners, St Mary’s of Hull.
UCS had chances to make a winning start, but Toby Crawcour, who led 6-2 in the decider against the ninthranked player in England, and Josh Imber, were unable to secure victory from strong positions.
A 4-4 draw against Longfield Academy from Darlington followed, with both teams winning 14 games apiece. Ben Barbarash, Joe Abrahams and Imber won their respective matches, while Crawcour, 11, claimed two games against his opponent, who is ranked in the top 15 of the under-15s.
UCS finished on a high, beating Ernest Bevan 5-3 to secure second place.
