Fortune have over- achieved. But now they can plan for Division One
FOOTBALL SIMON Linden struggled to contain his delight after Temple Fortune secured promotion into MGBSFL Division One after crushing recentlycrowned champions L’Equipe 7-1.
Jordan Sharifian was the hat-trick hero as Fortune turned on the style as Linden’s men finish the season in great style.
“We certainly saved the best until the last game,” commented Linden. “We knew we had to deliver and everyone from one to
15 in the squad played a part in today’s win. We bossed the game throughout against a team that looked depleted with numbers but as they say, you can only beat what’s put in front of you and my team knew how much it meant to get the win and promotion.” Man-of-the-match Michael Goldberg earned special praise from Linden in a game where Brett Stead, Zach Rich and an own goal completed the comeback after Andy Smith had give L’Equipe an early advantage.
Linden said: “This season has been unbelievable - this time last year the club finished second from bottom and the agenda was to get Fortune playing as a competitive force again. “Not in my wildest dreams did I think we would finish in the top two, but credit to everyone involved at the football club who all played a part in making this happen.
“We have only conceded one goal in six games, and that was a penalty.
Otherwise my back five has been outstanding — let me tell you it is the same back five that started the season.
“They have grown as a force and continued to improve as the season has gone on.”
Linden went on to thank club chairman Nigel Kyte and said: “He works tirelessly behind the scenes running the club and deserves recognition for everything’s he puts into making sure everything ticks along.
“I’d also like to thank the Hertswood Vale boys for beating RC UK to help us seal promotion.
“It’s funny because Avi Markiewicz at RC UK said in his season preview that they will win the league, yet today we sit 17 points above them.
“We are back and believe me the journey has only just started.”
