Regev visit to Soas sparks opposition
STUDENTS AND academics urged Valerie Amos, director of the School of Oriental and African Studies to call off a visit by Israeli ambassador Mark Regev, due to have taken place on Thursday. A letter signed by more than 100 Soas staff claimed his presence could cause “serious tension”. Mr Regev was invited to the central London campus by Soas’s JSoc and United Nations Society. A Soas spokesman said the university supported the right of students to invite speakers to debate contentious issues.
