Kosher on Corrie

The Jewish Chronicle - - LIFE -

ITV’S long-running soap Coronation Street has been running a Jewish storyline in recent episodes and it came to a crunch this week.

Social worker Nicola Rubinstein (right, played by Nicola Thorp) is the daughter of Amanda Rubinstein, who is married to Isaac but had an affair with Liverpool builder Pat Phelan.

Since Phelan believes Nicola could be his daughter, he asks his wife Eileen to invite her to dinner so they can take a DNA swab. Eileen lays on a spread of gefilte fish, felafel and other Jewish-friendly dishes, although Nicola confesses that whereas her parents were religious, she is not.

The DNA results were revealed this week — but in case you haven’t yet seen the episode, my lips are sealed.
