UK cel­e­brates with 160 events

Around 850 peo­ple at­tended the din­ner, which raised more than £3 mil­lion for the char­ity.

The money will go to­wards “vi­tal pro­grammes in the UK and in Is­rael”, it said.

MORE THAN 160 events will be held around the coun­try dur­ing Oc­to­ber and Novem­ber to mark the cen­te­nary of the Bal­four Dec­la­ra­tion, it has been an­nounced.

Lec­tures, panel dis­cus­sions, com­mu­nity gath­er­ings and Shab­bat meals will take place in syn­a­gogues, schools and uni­ver­si­ties, to com­mem­o­rate the doc­u­ment which laid out Bri­tish sup­port for a Jewish home­land.

Events will take place in Lon­don, Manch­ester, Leeds, Scot­land and else­where, with each one or­gan­ised by a lo­cal com­mit­tee. The cli­max of the cen­te­nary will be high­lighted by Bal­four 100 Shab­bat cel­e­bra­tions, which will be marked across the de­nom­i­na­tions.

Si­mon John­son, chief ex­ec­u­tive of the Jewish Lead­er­ship Coun­cil, said: “The num­ber of events is tes­ta­ment to the many lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties who are com­mit­ted to en­sur­ing the cen­te­nary’s suc­cess.”
