Judges avoid West Bank anniversary event

The Jewish Chronicle - - WORLD NEWS -

ISRAEL’S TOP judge this week refused to send representatives to an event commemorating fifty years of settlement in the West Bank, further deepening a rift between the Supreme Court and Benjamin Netanyahu.

The £2.1 million governmentfunded commemoration was designated a “national event”, but opposition parties refused to attend, saying celebrating the settlements is not a matter of national consensus.

Supreme Court president Miriam Naor said it would be “inappropriate” for judges to attend, but Tourism Minister Yariv Levin called the decision “a big scandal”.
