Boris raises restitution concerns with Poland

The Jewish Chronicle - - NEWS -

JEWISH GROUPS have thanked Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson for raising their concerns with the Polish government over a planned law limiting claims on private property seized by the Nazis to current Polish citizens or the first heirs of the original owners.

In a letter to Board of Deputies chief executive Gillian Merron, the Foreign Secretary wrote that the UK’s Special Envoy for PostHolocaust Issues, Sir Eric Pickles, had raised the issue with his Polish counterpart, highlighting the reservations expressed by the Board and the World Jewish Restitution Organisation (WJRO) that the narrow criteria would exclude the vast majority of Holocaust survivors and their families.
