AThe Great Bri­tish Bake Off and Mas­terchef? Is your brightly coloured KitchenAid stand mixer your most pre­cious pos­ses­sion? If cook­ing is your favourite pas­time but you would like to brush up on your skills and turn your­self into a star baker, a short cook­ery course is the an­swer.

Whether you choose a two-hour les­son, a day work­shop or a few classes over a num­ber of weeks, pro­fes­sional tu­ition will go a long way to im­press fam­ily and friends.

So put on your apron, wash your hands and make it choppy.

The Cook­ery School at Lit­tle Port­land Street runs 40 dif­fer­ent classes and cour­ses, in­clud­ing pas­try, sour­dough bread mak­ing, knife skills, gluten-free cook­ing, healthy eat­ing, sushi, Thai and Mex­i­can. Whether you are a pro­fi­cient cook or an ea­ger begin­ner, there is a class to suit your skill level. There are also veg­e­tar­ian classes (in­clud­ing In­dian cui­sine) and a ve­gan class.

The school wel­comes stu­dents of all ages and teaches how to cook good, sus­tain­able food with con­fi­dence. It is the only Lon­don cook­ery school awarded the max­i­mum three stars for its eco­con­scious prac­tices from the Sus­tain­able Restau­rant As­so­ci­a­tion. It does not of­fer kosher cook­ery classes and the kitchens are not kosher but kosher meat can be ob­tained on re­quest. cook­

Get­ting chil­dren in­ter­ested in cook­ing is a sure way to pro­mote healthy eat­ing. The Kids’ Kitchen, in north Lon­don, runs classes for ages two and over. The classes en­cour­age chil­dren to try new foods and tex­tures. Chil­dren leave with a recipe hand-out and the items they have made.

The cost of a ses­sion is £15, to in­clude all in­gre­di­ents, uten­sils, aprons and tu­ition. Classes run on Wed­nes­day, Thurs­day and Fri­day af­ter­noons from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and Thurs­day and Fri­day morn­ings, 9.30pm to 10.30am.

Classes for older chil­dren hap­pen monthly on Sun­day morn­ings, 10am to 12.30pm. Dur­ing hol­i­day times, three­hour morn­ing or af­ter­noon ses­sions have themes such as Harry Pot­ter or Alice in Won­der­land. Some classes are
