Millet ‘just getting started,’ warns Vale boss Emanuel
FOOTBALL JACOB Emanuel praised hattrick hero James Millet as Hertswood Vale edged two points clear after beating promotion rivals SPEC.
Vale responded to Matt Leader’s seventhminute opener to level via Ben Mandel’s fifth goal in three games, after Elio Elia’s shot had rebounded off the crossbar. Millet then registered twice during a 20-minute period before Dan Cohen scored a second goal for SPEC.
Millet restored Vale’s two-goal advantage two minutes into the second half before Josh Wood sealed the points with a fifth with 24 minutes remaining. Josh Green claimed SPEC’s third goal to give the scoreline a sense of respectability.
Vale joint-manager Emanuel remarked: “Having not scored in our last two games, James was as determined as I’ve seen him this season and he deservedly grabbed his first Vale hat-trick. His third goal was one of the best individual goals you’re likely to see this season. That’s 10 goals for him so far, and he’s just getting started.” Emanuel also praised SPEC and said: “In fairness, they were a force throughout and we never felt truly comfortable at 5-2. They deserved their third goal with the last kick of the game. “I’ve no doubt, our reverse fixture in two weeks’ time will be another cracker.” SPEC player-manager Ricky Lawrence commented: “We can’t have any complaints about the result, the better team won.”
