That empty vase in a bay-win­dow bay, vase with blue wil­low-pat­tern lines, it’s miss­ing a birth – or Valen­tine’s day for us to have our rare de­signs upon its in­ner empti­ness, that vase come from a junk, no, a char­ity shop where I’ll have paid a tiny sum on a non­de­script au­tumn af­ter­noon to take its va­cancy away.

Though for­got­ten in such empti­ness long win­ters long, still, it serves to say of all the in­fi­nite times or places in which two might have moved and loved, oh no, you didn’t miss each other, for here it was we co­in­cided – com­mu­ni­cat­ing through these times of ours, and like that vase were a mo­men­tary stay wait­ing for its com­ple­ments of flow­ers.
