Peace Dividend

The London Magazine - - CONTENTS -

Pale trunks on a shadowy embankment where this evening’s trees have paused −

if they don’t move they won’t feel themselves or sense the moment has to end

it stretches all down the line the way a breath prolongs itself by being held

when we don’t want the day to close when staying like this brings the night near

to us as we are near touching not touching together in the long dusk
