WHAT ARE HUNGER PAINS?

-

Dr Steve Iley, medical director of Bupa UK, says: ‘Hunger pains (or pangs) can occur when the stomach is empty and all the food that was in it has been digested.

‘The hunger pain can be caused by the release of a hormone called ghrelin – also known as the “hunger hormone”. This hormone causes our stomach or intestinal walls to contract, and this contracting creates the feeling and noise you sometimes hear when hungry.’
