1million pass their ‘L’ test but never drive

-

UP TO a million people in Britain have yet to get behind the wheel despite passing their driving test, a new study has found.

Some blame the expense involved in buying and insuring a car, while others say they lack confidence.

The survey of 3,002 drivers, conducted by price-comparison website ComparetheMarket. com, found more than a third of those ‘parked’ motorists felt the cost of driving was too high.

Two per cent of those polled said they had not got behind the wheel since passing their test, while one in ten had not driven in the previous 12 months.

With more than 45million driving licences issued in Britain, the number of ‘parked drivers’ could be as high as a million.

A ComparetheMarket.com spokesman said: ‘Passing the driving test is not always the start of a motoring love affair.’
