3 ways to treat... FLAT FEET
PREVENT:
Flat feet describes a condition that occurs when the normally raised arch of the foot does not come off the ground when standing up straight. In some cases this is a result of genetics, while in others the connective tissue in the arch becomes damaged and stretched due to injury, illness or unsupportive footwear. To prevent this, ensure you wear shoes which fit properly and have a good support for the arch. It may even be good to invest in extra arch-supportive insoles.
TREAT:
If the damage is already done, you can try to improve the strain on your lower legs by stretching and flexing your feet and massaging the arch. A podiatrist – a specialist in foot health – can examine your feet and gait and recommend specially made insoles which support the arch and stop the feet from rolling inwards.
DON’T BOTHER:
Expensive trainers will not make your feet healthier. In fact, those designed to enhance athletic performance often alter the shape of the foot for a specific purpose (such as running). Unless you are taking exercise, opt for an ergonomic podiatrist-recommended shoe.
