Remain protesters in terror row
AN anti-Brexit demonstration in London yesterday was overshadowed by a clash over whether it should have been called off in the wake of the terror attack on Westminster.
While one pro-Remain group, the European Movement, advised supporters to stay away to avoid placing a burden on police resources, rival group Unite for Europe pressed ahead – saying it would ‘not be intimidated’ by terrorists. Up to 100,000 demonstrators called for Britain to remain in the EU.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron told the rally in Parliament Square – just yards from the terrorist attack – that ‘the unspeakable outrage that happened in this city on Wednesday will not defeat us, or silence us or divide us’.
He then called for a second referendum to ‘change the direction of our nation’.
