Learmonth delighted to lead GB one-two

TRIATHLON: Britain’s Jessica Learmonth and Sophie Coldwell finished won gold and silver at the European Championsh­ips in Kitzbuhel. Defending champion India Lee was 15th, while Italy’s Alice Betto finished third. ‘I never expected to be European champion when I started in triathlon,’ Learmonth said. ‘To get a GB one-two is just amazing. India made some tactical decisions which helped us.’

CANOE: Kimberley Woods won the women’s C1 slalom in the World Cup in Prague. Fellow Briton Mallory Franklin placed second. The event will make its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games in 2020. Great Britain’s Rio 2016 gold medallist Joe Clark, 24, finished sixth in the K1 men’s.

SUPERBIKES: Jonathan Rea remounted and finished third after he and Chaz Davies crashed on the final lap of the first race at Misano, Italy. Double champion Rea, who was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, had his title lead reduced to 46 points, after Tom Sykes took the win.
