last week’s sad news of the death of Anita Pallenberg, I’m sorry to report concern for another member of the Rolling Stones’ circle. I hear Marianne Faithfull, 70 – Mick Jagger’s girlfriend in the 1960s – is unwell with a mystery ‘serious illness’. It forced her to miss an appearance at an art show featuring portraits of her during the Stones’ hey-day.

Marianne’s grandson, Oscar Dunbar, took her place after she pulled out at the last minute. He did not give any more details but I’m told the illness relates to an infection after a hip replacement. Her absence was a shock to guests at the show, who included artist Sir Peter Blake, royal portrait painter Christian Furr and the exhibition’s star photographer, Gered Mankowitz.
