Spurs eye move for Smalling
TOTTENHAM manager Mauricio Pochettino could turn to Manchester United’s Chris Smalling (left) after losing out to Leicester for £17 million defender Harry Maguire. Maguire chose the King Power Stadium because he felt he’d get more first-team matches for the same wages he would have earned at Spurs.
Pochettino wants a centre-half to complement Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as Spurs prepare to launch a Premier League title challenge as well as a Champions League campaign.
Smalling — who got married yesterday — is available following the arrival of £31 million Victor Lindelof. He could even be used as a makeweight in a deal for another United target, Eric Dier, who is valued at £50 million by Spurs.
