Fat fans get bigger seats at World Cup
OVERWEIGHT football fans are being offered extra-large seats at next year’s World Cup finals.
To qualify, they have to provide evidence, such as a doctor’s note, confirming that they are obese.
It is thought to be the first time that seats at a major sporting event have been made bigger because of the obesity crisis.
Tickets for the tournament in Russia went on sale last week, but supporters hoping to get a larger seat simply for reasons of comfort will be disappointed.
Those demanding bigger seats will have to show tournament organisers that they have a BMI of 35 or above – the equivalent of a 5ft 10in person weighing about 18st.
England need just one point from their final two group matches to qualify for the finals – while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are still in with a chance.
