The Mail on Sunday - - News -

LEWIS Hamilton’s Mercedes team was held up at gunpoint by a gang of robbers ahead of today’s Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The British Formula 1 World Champion said armed men surrounded vehicles leaving the Interlagos circuit on Friday. Hamilton, 32, wrote on Twitter: ‘Some of my team were held up at gunpoint last night… Gunshots fired, gun held at one’s head. Please say a prayer for my guys who are here as professionals today even if shaken.’ He also called for security to be improved.

A Mercedes spokesman said the team preferred not to make a formal report to police. Hamilton later crashed out of qualifying and will start from the back of the grid.
