Father’s heartbreaking last dance with dying baby girl
ALONE on an empty dancefloor, a father dances tenderly with his baby daughter in a poignant moment he will treasure for ever.
The scene is high on emotion, for this could be one of the very last times Kevin McGuire holds fragile Millie. He knows his daughter will die soon, and is determined to make the most of every moment they have together.
Millie, who turns two later this month, was born with brain damage and a bone disorder, and her already serious condition deteriorated in May. So Kevin and his wife Marcia have vowed to make memories while they can.
The musicians in the band Stone Foundation could barely hold back their tears for the emotional last dance, as father and daughter swayed to their song Your Balloon Is Rising, which Kevin often sings to Millie.
NHS worker Kevin, 51, said: ‘The one thing that does get to me is the knowledge I will never ever dance with Millie at landmark birthdays or her wedding. When I see videos of dads dancing with their daughters at events, as lovely as it is, it kills me inside. This is something I’ll cherish for ever.’
Although Millie is expected to die soon, Kevin, from Hartlepool, said: ‘You won’t see any sad tears dropping from our eyes. In her short time Millie has given us only happiness and love.’
