Click to split ...the online divorce done in 2 months

The Mail on Sunday - - NEWS - By Laura Shannon

A QUICKER, cheaper resolution for the 100,000 married couples who split up every year is around the corner with new ‘digital divorces’.

‘Click to split’ technology dramatically reduces the process from 12 months to just two, a Government trial found.

Documents are uploaded electronically and sent directly to court, dramatically cutting cost, errors and delays.

The scheme has been available to individuals taking the DIY divorce route via the Gov.uk website since the beginning of the year and is part of a £1 billion initiative to modernise the courts.

As of September, 13,767 applications had been submitted this way.

Tracy Moloney, head of family law at Co-op Legal Services which took part in the trial, said: ‘It is an amazing system. We could take on a client today whose divorce will be finalised before a client we took on six months ago.’

The process is expected to be rolled out through England and Wales by next year.
