UEFA’s stark warning: We might yet lose this season
THE European season faces being scrapped if it has not resumed by the end of June. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin says football’s authorities are considering three options but fear time is running out.
He said: ‘There is a plan A, B and C. To start again in mid-May, in June or at the end of June, if we don’t succeed, the season will probably be lost.’ However, Ceferin also refused to rule out extending the 2019-20 campaign into next season.
‘We will see the best solution for leagues and clubs,’ he said. Finishing domestic leagues this season is UEFA’s priority, even if it means playing behind closed doors. ‘If there was no alternative, it would be better to finish the championships anyway,’ he said.
