BLAKE HEROICS SALVAGE DRAW

The Non-League Football Paper - - RYMAN PREMIER - By David Rees

LEISTON leading scorer Matt Blake salvaged a point when it seemed certain a slick Enfield Town side were going to claim a first win at Victory Road.

Blake struck deep into stoppage time as two promotion hopefuls couldn’t be separated.

The visitors started well, taking advantage of a plush playing surface but not troubling the home rearguard.

Leiston finally found rhythm, stretching the visitors’ defence without forging anything where it mattered, in the Enfield box.

They then twice went close at the start of the second half as the game began to open up. But Enfield took the lead just after the hour mark.

Scott Shulton exchanged passes inside the box before drilling a fine strike across Jacob Marsden.

Then followed a 20-minute period of Enfield dominance, with countless corners and a terrific save from Marsden to deny Tyler Campbell a matchwinning second goal.

Suddenly Leiston sensed a way back and, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Niko Muir-Merchant created space on the edge of the box to drill an effort that Nathan McDonald spilled into the path of a grateful Matt Blake, who swept home his 24th of the season.

STAR MAN: Jack Ainsley (Leiston) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
