STAFFORD Rangers had to come from behind to squeeze past Ilkeston.

Although Stafford dominated much of the first half, it was the visitors who were ahead at half-time, thanks to Luis Rose.

The goal came seconds after Ilkeston keeper Jamie Hannis had been forced to race off his line to clear from Jack Sherratt. His long clearance was played on by Ben Morris, picking out Rose.

Hannis proved Ilkeston’s saviour in the final 15 minutes of the first half, keeping out Izak Reid and Kyle Perry who also hit the post shortly after.

The Ilkeston keeper dropped a high cross at the feet of Perry but redeemed himself with a good save before keeping out a close range header from Mat Bailey as the visitors took their lead into the break.

Their resistance finally broke two minutes in to the second half when Hannis pushed away Josh Gordon’s shot but then could only divert Reid’s follow up into his own net.

Ilkeston missed a couple of great opportunities to restore their lead.

It was Stafford’s Josh Gordon who was to grab what proved to be the winning goal when he headed in Reid’s cross on 70 minutes.
