KAYNE SO ABLE FOR MARTYRS
CIRENCESTER T 0 MERTHYR TOWN 2
TWO first-half goals secured Merythr a battling victory.
A tight start to the match saw Cirencester’s Ben Brown directing a clever flick which was dealt with by Olivier Davis before stopping Alan Griffin’s low strike.
And, as the Centurions began to dictate possession, Aidan Bennett had a fierce shot which just skimmed over the crossbar.
But it was the Martyrs who opened the scoring against the run of play as Ryan Prosser fired home from outside the box.
And the visitors doubled their advantage when striker Kayne McLaggon side-footed into the bottom corner.
Cirencester thought they had secured a way back into the game just before half-time but Olly Mehew’s tap-in was ruled out for offside.
Merthyr started the second half positively but it was the trailing side who nearly scored when Davis’s poor clearance found Adam Connolly whose long-distance effort missed.
And Alan Griffin had two opportunities in a matter of minutes, sending a header straight at Davis before blazing over.
Cirencester huffed and puffed with Tony Lee blazing over but Merthyr had opportunities to increase their lead.
