STOCKSBRIDGE Park Steels’ persistence paid off as they beat Newcastle Town.

Town keeper Dave Barton made several fine saves to keep his side on level terms, and the visitors’ best chance of the game came 18 minutes in when Lee Cropper tried a shot from the halfway line that sailed just wide.

The home team cranked up the pressure, with Kyle Blake clearing off the line from Nathaniel Crofts.

Their hard work paid off when Stocksbridge finally broke through on 75 minutes, Joshua Meade firing home from 20 yards.

Newcastle were given a lifeline when Brodie Litchfield was sent off for a reckless challenge, but Steels keeper David Reay denied Cropper.
