The Non-League Football Paper

COMINGS AND GOINGS OF DEADLINE DAY

- By Sam Elliott

was no Jim White, no yellow ticker fanfare or reporters flanked by over-excited teenagers screeching unmentionable ‘funnies’ down the camera, but Non-League’s transfer deadline day was packed with plenty of excitement. Sky Sports may not have been interested in the goings on, but supporters certainly were as clubs stocked up their squads to get ready for the final furlong as the season enters its last five weeks. Billericay stole plenty of the thunder with the signing of Jamie O’Hara, but elsewhere clubs were putting the very final touches on things with a lick of paint as they bolster their ranks for the run-in.

Forest Green manager Mark Cooper thought Rovers needed tweaking at the back, and Curtis Tilt comes on board, on loan after impressing for Wrexham this season having made the step up from AFC Telford in the summer.

Dragons manager Dean Keates said: “Having spoken with Curtis and his advisor, it doesn’t seem that he will be staying with us next season anyway.”

It wasn’t long ago Kidderminster were struggling to make ends meet, but they paid a five-figure fee to Nuneaton for striker Joe Ironside, 23.

The deal was funded by the fans and he rewarded them with a late winner as Harriers registered a dramatic 4-3 victory at Tamworth in midweek. Kiddy also added wide player Emmanuel Sonupe from Northampton Town and free agent defender Josh Webb.

Harry Anderson re-joined Lincoln City’s promotion push after Peterborough United let him return.

Former England U21 goalkeeper Scott Loach has joined York City’s bid for survival, while Asa Hall remains on loan from Cheltenham.

Sutton United striker Dan Fitchett has moved to Wealdstone, who believe they can still make the National League South play-offs.

Chippenham have strengthened their assault on the Southern League title by taking Chris Allen from Weymouth, while Warrington Town boss Paul Carden added Scott Bakkor from Colwyn Bay.

Louis Briscoe will spend the rest of the season at Boston United after Tamworth let him go on loan to York Street as Jamie Lucas enhances Woking’s survival chances with a loan deal from League One Bristol Rovers. Former Valencia B forward Carlos Djalo has signed for Tadcaster Albion.

Billericay have never been far from the news and although they have been signing former Premier League stars lately, they also announced they have broken the club’s transfer record to lure Jake Robinson to New Lodge from Hemel Hempstead for £24,000.
