LEISTON 2 WORTHING 0

- By David Rees STAR MAN: Conor Hubble (Leiston) ENTERTAINMENT:

LEISTON’S third win in the last seven days catapulted them back into third place approaching the business end of the season.

Two goals from midfielder Conor Hubble were enough to defeat a hard-working Worthing side.

The hosts were quickly into their stride and were ahead on 12 minutes when an unmarked Hubble headed home Gareth Heath’s corner from six yards.

Worthing enjoyed a large spell of possession but lacked a cutting edge in the final third, failing to trouble keeper Ashlee Jones.

Leiston’s leading scorer Matt Blake went close and in firsthalf stoppage time Leiston skipper Tom Bullard headed home, only to be penalised for a push.

Worthing continued to enjoy plenty of possession after the break but couldn’t forge any clear sight of the Leiston goal.

It proved costly as Leiston doubled their lead on 70 minutes with a composed finish from Hubble after he skipped into the box and cleverly eluded Corey Heath’s challenge.

Worthing’s best chance came in the final minute.

Will Hendon skipped past two challenges inside the penalty box to create space but he sliced his effort well wide.
