WEYMOUTH 1 KINGS LANGLEY 1

- By Dill Butcher

OLLIE COX’S terrific second half strike handed Kings Langley a draw that summed up Weymouth’s season.

The Terras lost the services of young on-loan stopper Tom McHale, who was recalled by Truro City earlier in the week, so player-manager Jason Matthews elected to return between the sticks.

The boss was called into action early on, combining with Stephane Zubar to thwart Lewis Toomey.

Weymouth then went on the front foot themselves, edging in front in the 12th minute when Ashley Wells fed Calvin Brooks out wide and his delivery was converted by Mark Cooper.

Moments later, Kings defender Jorell Johnson headed over from a corner before Cooper fired over from a Brooks free-kick.

Cooper’s corner saw Dean Evans hammer a header just wide and then Tiago Sa and Billy Lowes went close for the hosts.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to level in the second half as Cox hit gold with a shot from range that looped over Matthews into the top corner.

Buoyed by the goal, Kings went close ten minutes later when Sam Tring dragged his attempt from an acute angle just wide from eight yards.

The Terras were clearly looking rattled when Ryan Plowright headed over, before Brooks played in Ben Thomson, but his strike was well saved by Kings keeper Xavi Comas.
