The Non-League Football Paper - - FA CUP SECOND ROUND QUALIFYING - By Neil McGowan

BASFORD United reached the third qualifying round for the first time in their history thanks to Matt Thornhill’s 78th minute goal.

Thornhill was in the right place to turn the ball in from ten yards after a move involving Connor Bartle and Kieran Wells.

In a tight game it always looked as if the one goal would be enough.

Mickleover tried to put Basford under pressure after the goal, forcing a series of corners, but the home team stood firm.

The visitors had been first to show as Jimmy Phillips forced Saul Deeney into a save within the first five minutes.

Ben Hutchinson then just failed to make contact with James Reid’s cross as Basford responded.
