Dolphins delight in City’s slip-up

The Non-League Football Paper - - NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH - OXFORD CITY 2 POOLE TOWN 3 By Ryan Bratley

OXFORD failed to convert possession into points as they lost to a clinical Poole Town.

The Hoops dominated the opening exchanges, taking a deserved lead through Matt Paterson as he hooked a loose ball goalwards. A chip over the defence almost found him for a second but Nick Hutchings dealt with it.

Poole drew level just before half-time. A whipped cross from the right found the head of Warren Bentley at the back post and his controlled header back across goal beat Jack Stevens. Reece Fleet almost struck back for City but could only pick out the crossbar from six yards.

Poole were upset to have a penalty shout waved away but this was quickly forgotten as they took the lead a minute later. An incisive move down the right left the defence scrambling to find their shape, Bentley eventually tapping home after an initial shot was blocked.

The visitors then made it three when a quick break saw three attackers overwhelm two defenders, Jez Bedford scoring into an unguarded net.

Paterson poked a consolation for City but the visitors ran out deserved winners.

STAR MAN: Warren Bentley (Poole Town) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
