Oswell has caretakers cursing
STOCKPORT scored in stoppage time to deny Darlo victory in their first game since Martin Gray’s fiveand-a-half-year tenure came to an end last week.
He resigned to become York City boss, leaving players Gary Brown and Phil Turnbull in temporary charge until a permanent replacement is appointed, and the caretaker duo were seconds away from a win at Blackwell Meadows.
Jason Oswell’s goal meant disappointment for the Quakers, but it ensured a point apiece which was a fair result on the balance of play and chances created.
Darlington striker Nathan Cartman missed two one-onones, his first on 70 seconds, while at the other end Adam Bartlett tipped over Sam Walker’s free-kick.
Darlo went ahead on 47 minutes when Terry Galbraith fired in a free-kick via Scott Duxbury’s deflection.
Joint caretaker boss Brown later told The NLP: “I almost did a Barry Fry, but thought better of it.”
The Hatters responded immediately, with Liam Marrs clearing one off the line and they continued to pile men forward.
Saunders missed a good chance, but just when it seemed that the Quakers were going to hang on, Oswell turned inside the penalty area to fire home.
