GRANTHAM TOWN 1 STAFFORD RANGERS 2

The Non-League Football Paper - - EVO-STIK NPL PREMIER - By Pat Nixon

GRANTHAM’S winning home run came to an end with defeat to Stafford Rangers.

Stafford were the first to show when Jack Sherratt’s effort was tipped over by Grantham keeper Kieran Preston.

Preston again saved Grantham in the eighth minute when he came out to block Izak Reid’s shot when he was through on goal.

Grantham came more into the game and Jordan Hempenstall brought a save from Adam Whitehurst and the same player then hit the bar.

Stafford took the lead in the 20th minute when Sherratt netted and they increased their lead on 31 minutes when Grantham failed to clear a free kick and Reid was on hand.

Grantham then twice went close as firstly Andrew Wright’s cross went across the goal with no one getting a touch and then Hempenstall hit a post and keeper Whitehouse recovered to save the ball on the line.

Grantham should have pulled a goal back on 39 minutes but Wright’s penalty after Lee Shaw had been brought down was saved by Whitehouse.

Grantham didn’t score until the 85th minute as Lee Shaw scored from the penalty spot but it was too little too late.
