CELTIC SURGE GATHERS PACE
STALYBRIDGE continued their climb up the Evo-Stik Premier League table as they put Matlock to the sword.
They recorded their third win in four games after dominating possession throughout.
Liam Dickinson opened the scoring on 24 minutes after Alex Honeyball chased what looked to be a lost cause on the left, and whipped in a cross for Celtic’s leading scorer to hook home his ninth goal.
Theo Bailey-Jones and Oli Roberts both went close as Celtic looked to emphasise their superiority.
Matlock keeper Phil Barnes thwarted John Cofie with a superb save, but he was powerless to prevent Celtic doubling their lead when neat interplay between Greg Wilkinson, Cofie and Honeyball allowed the fullback to cross for Bailey-Jones.
They made the game safe on 81 minutes when Wilkinson threaded a delightful ball inside fullback Kieran Wallace, and Bailey-Jones simply slammed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards.
Adam Etches looked to have grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors when he tapped home on 90 minutes, but Celtic simply swept to the other end and substitute Jake Charles drilled home from the edge of the box to seal the points.
