DORCHESTER TOWN 2 BASINGSTOKE TOWN 1

- By Terry Spracklen

BASINGSTOKE Town were left counting the cost of wasted first-half chances as Dorchester scored twice after the break to progress.

Phil Ormroyd replaced home debutante Rory Fallon at the start of the second half and grabbed two goals.

After 52 minutes Sam Lanahan pulled a cross back from the byline for Ormroyd to power home. Then on 69 minutes a challenge by Shane Hollamby on Lanahan conceded a penalty which Ormroyd scored.

Sam Argent pulled a goal back in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time heading in from close range.

Basingstoke dominated the first half forcing countless corners and creating several good openings.

Michael Atkinson forced the first save from Magpie keeper Chris Weale while Sam Smart fired wide.

Atkinson then had a shot inadvertently blocked by Argent, Smart headed wide a low drive by Argent.

As Basingstoke kept up the first half pressure, Bennett fired just past the post and Ben Wright missed.

Dorchester’s chances were limited to an early effort from Aaron Rodriges saved at the near post by Colm McAddem and a Billy Lowes’ shot blocked in the penalty area.

But the game changed dramatically after the break and once in front Dorchester looked the likely victors.

STAR MAN: Sam Lanahan (Dorchester) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
