Gaffer Greaves is 100 not out
FC UNITED’S player-manager Tom Greaves became the club’s record goalscorer as his two goals gave his team an unexpected victory over Harrogate Town.
Greaves now tops the Red Rebels’ charts after scoring his 99th and 100th goals.
The visitors edged a close first half and held a one goal lead at the break thanks to Jack Vann’s header.
But the Red Rebels have been rejuvenated in recent weeks and they took the game to their much-fancied opponents after the break.
Craig Lindfield levelled when his corner kick went through everybody in the box and found its way in.
Lindfield went close to getting a second but saw his effort turned away for a corner by James Belshaw.
From the corner Greaves levelled Rory Patterson’s record of 99 goals for the club with a typical poacher’s header inside the box.
As the game went into stoppage time Greaves made the record his own with his 100th for the club as the home team countered and the ball was put into the box for Greaves to fire into the roof of the net.
Harrogate’s Simon Ainge slotted home a 96th minute penalty, but there was no time left to stop Greaves’ resurgent Red Rebels sealing a seventh successive home victory.
