THE MANAGER of the month curse hit Weston boss Marc McGregor as his Seagulls side fell to their first defeat in six matches against highflying Hampton & Richmond Borough.

It was the league’s top scorer Dayle Grubb who gave Weston the lead after just five minutes, netting his 14th goal of the season.

Jarrad Welch fed Grubb the ball and he made no mistake with some neat footwork and a clinical finish into the top corner.

The Seagulls had started on the front foot, but just six minutes later Charlie Wassmer nodded home the equaliser. Weston failed to stop an incoming cross and their keeper Luke Purnell missed the ball, allowing defender Wassmer to make no mistake with his header during an entertaining opening period.

After the goal, it was the visitors who looked the stronger side, but resolute defending meant they were limited to half chances.

The second half started as a tight affair with neither team testing the keeper, but the visitors looked more dangerous as the match wore on.

And their pressure finally told from the penalty spot on 78 minutes, when Max Kretzschmar gave Purnell no chance when he fired home the spot-kick.
