MATLOCK ARE DOWNED

The Non-League Football Paper - - EVO-STIK NPL PREMIER - By Phil Matthews

ANY GAME between Mickleover Sports and local rivals Matlock Town is guaranteed to be feisty and this was no different.

Matlock have yet to win a game at the Don Amott Arena and they must have feared the worst from the moment that Eban Garnett gave the hosts a 14th-minute lead as he latched onto a loose ball after an Andy Dale shot was only parried and not held.

Dale and Garnett proved a dangerous combination, especially during the first half when they threatened to run rampant.

Philip Barnes in the Matlock goal however was up to anything that was thrown at him and ensured his team stayed in the contest.

An Ollie Mulders free-kick beat everybody but hit the post and bounced away, meaning that the first half finished with just the one-goal advantage to the hoses. But Sports did double their lead on 65 minutes when Mulders’ corner was headed home by Pablo Mills.

Matlock had opportunities of their own but most of their efforts were gathered relatively easily by home goalkeeper Lewis King.

Mickleover worked hard all over the pitch to keep a clean sheet and deserved their victory. STAR MAN: Ollie Mulders (M’over) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
