The Non-League Football Paper - - EVO-STIK LEAGUE SOUTH, WEST & EAST - By Thomas Williams

STU GREEN’S late strike finally allowed Salisbury to breathe a sigh of relief after picking up their sixth straight win with victory over North Leigh. The hosts had gone ahead with barely a minute on the clock, but left it until the dying embers to wrap up what could prove to be a vital win in their bid to catch Taunton Town at the top of the table. North Leigh huffed and puffed throughout and could have pinched a point in the closing stages before Green wrapped up the spoils. But they weren’t able to prevent an eighth away defeat of the season, a record matched or worsened by only three teams. Olly Mehew’s first-minute penalty suggested a long afternoon could be in store for the visitors, confidently tucking away when Aaron Dawson was fouled. But North Leigh got back into it, continuing to threaten their status as the Whites’ bogey side, though the pivotal goal proved elusive. Into the second half and Danny Young set up Mehew who looked destined to score for the hosts, only to miscue horribly in front of goal when in a grat position. That proved a tale of the second half as Leigh started to forge some chances of their own, with Green eventually sealing the deal when pouncing on a defensive mistake and tucking home from inside the area.
