ROBINS ROCK LOWLY LYDNEY
Lamb’s lads keep leaders in sights
BRACKNELL TOWN stay in hot pursuit of runaway league leaders Highworth Town by defeating Lydney Town 41 at Larges Lane.
The fourth-placed Robins are still 17 points adrift of the table toppers, who were without a fixture, but have four games in hand and are still to meet their title rivals at home. Struggling Lydney snatched a shock lead when Lewis Halford tapped into an empty net, but it took the hosts just six minutes to level through TJ Bohane. Bohane swept in his second on the day and 17th this season in first half stoppage time to give Bracknell a lead. And the Robins – defending an unbeaten home league record – extended their advantage three minutes after the restart through Jon Bennett. And Bennett completed his own double, scoring his tenth this term to make it four with four minutes to go. Bracknell joint-manager Jeff Lamb told The NLP: “The title is
not over yet, that’s for definite. “After losing at Highworth, we have bounced back well and that is full credit to my squad. “We are now looking to go on a winning run.” Second-placed Thatcham Town thrashed Waterside Park visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town 6-0. Liam Ferdinand hit a quartet of goals, while experienced marksman Shane Cooper-Clark and Harrison Bayley completed the rout. Third-placed hosts Wantage Town triumphed 4-0 against Alfredian Park opponents Ascot United thanks to goals from Dan Comer, Jack Dunmall, Steve Robertson and Sam Shepperd. Flackwell Heath fill fifth after defeating Wilks Park visitors Windsor 3-1, while non-playing Binfield stayed in sixth spot. Hosts Brimscombe & Thrupp beat third-from-bottom Woodley United 2-0, while Longlevens defeated second-from-bottom visitors Highmoor Ibis by the same scoreline. Tuffley Rovers beat visitors Abingdon United 2-0, while Oxford City Nomads triumphed 3-1 at fourth-from-bottom Fairford Town.
